About the Organization: The Worcester Consumer Rights Program (WCRP) is a local consumer program (LCP) that offers mediation service in cooperation with the Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office (AGO). The service is available to consumers in Worcester and surrounding towns. The purpose of the Worcester Consumer Rights Program is to provide amicable mediation to consumers who are involved in a dispute or have a complaint against a business that is licensed to operate in Massachusetts. The program is voluntary and does not carry any cost to either the consumer or business. Types of common complaints that we handle: Car Sales & Financing, Consumer Fraud, Debt Collection, Defective Products, Home Improvement Contracts, Identity Theft, Telemarketing Fraud, Utility Bills.
About the Position: Under the supervision of the Worcester Consumer Rights Program Manager, the Staff Assistant provides administrative support to the Worcester Consumer Rights Program. The position is responsible for supporting case management and documentation of consumer aid complaints. Additionally, the Staff Assistant will assist in outreach and ‘know your rights’ initiatives. Duties include performing customer service functions, file/database maintenance in accordance with requirements set forth by Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office, and facilitating outreach efforts. This is a part-time (24 hours/week), grant funded position through June 30, 2019. Continuation of this assignment is contingent upon grant renewal and subject to availability of funds.
Special Requirements/Qualifications: The successful candidate will have excellent written and verbal communication skills; be able to work effectively using Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook & Excel); be detail oriented with high degree of accuracy; be organized and flexible; be able to maintain confidentiality; be self-directed and complete projects with limited supervision; work well independently and as part of a team; have an interest in and sensitivity toward working with diverse populations; have an interest in human rights, civil rights, and equal opportunity.
- Associates degree in business, paralegal, human services, or related field
- High school diploma plus two (2) years of comparable work experience may be substituted for degree requirement
- Preferred:
- Related work experience in customer service and/or office support
- Bilingual/Bicultural
- Worcester Resident
Estimated Salary: $20.18 hourly, part-time (24 hr/wk)
