About the Organization: In NYC, community boards deal with a range of matters, including land use and zoning, identifying community needs as part of the City’s budget process, and working with government agencies to improve the local delivery of services. More broadly, all community boards are concerned with any other matter relating to the welfare of the district and its residents. Bronx Community Board 6 has several iconic locations such as Arthur Ave., the Bronx Zoo, The Botanical Garden, Fordham University, and the East Tremont commercial strip.
About the Position: Bronx Community Board 6 is looking for motivated undergraduate and graduate students to serve as interns this Fall. The community board planning internship is suited for someone with an entrepreneurial spirit to lead public service initiatives in an underserved community. You will learn much more here than in a typical government office and given greater responsibility. Interns will work directly with the District Manager and assist with city agency interaction, local business outreach, elected official outreach, the planning of community events, legislative research and help organize district budget requests. Successful interns have moved on to work for the NYS Assembly, NYC Council, and several non-profit organizations.
Interns will be expected to work 2-3 days and 15 – 20 hours each week.
