About the Organization: Torrance California, a full service City, is the eighth largest city in Los Angeles County and is located in a region of Southern California known as the South Bay. Ideally situated near the 405 (San Diego) freeway and twenty minutes from the Los Angeles International Airport, Torrance spans an area of almost 22 square miles including 1 mile of beach.
About the Position: The City of Torrance is seeking an experienced, organized and customer-service oriented Program Coordinator to be the Farmers’ Market Assistant Manager. Under direction, the Assistant Manager will work with the Farmers’ Market Manager in the coordination and the promotion of the day-to-day activities of the City’s Farmers’ Markets and Community Gardens programs. The Program Coordinator must be able to work on Tuesdays and Saturdays, beginning at 6:00 a.m. on those days. This position will be required to work flexible hours, including but not limited to evenings and weekends.
Special Requirements/Qualifications: Completion of 1 year of coursework within a recreation-related specialty, fine arts, or a related field, OR 1 year of specific and substantial full-time experience which prepares one to function in this position may be substituted for the required year of education. The ideal candidate, in addition to the minimum requirements, will possess:
- At least one year of recent experience working at a Certified Farmers’ Market or coordinating a large public event;
- Exceptional customer service; Ability to handle cash payments, count change, and reconcile cash reports;
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including frequent contact with a diverse community;
- Highly enthusiastic; and
- Interest in food production, gardening, sustainability, and community.
Estimated Salary: $24.77 – $30.10 per hour
