About the Organization: ReThink Media is a unique, nonprofit organization that strengthens movements through building the collaborative media and communications capacity of state and national advocacy groups, increasing the voice share of their spokespeople, experts, and allies, and providing in-depth media, messaging, and opinion research to inform movement strategy. Working with our funding partners, we focus on long-term engagement with the groups we work with and the issues we take on—all driven by a belief that the stronger the groups are across an issue sector and the tighter their collaboration, the more likely they are to win real and lasting policy victories. At present, ReThink works in three distinct, yet interconnected, issue areas: the protection of human and civil rights, strengthening our democracy, and for a more constructive U.S. foreign and national security policy.
About the Position: ReThink Media’s paid Internship and Fellowship program provides talented undergraduate and graduate students (and recent graduates) with hands-on experience in issue advocacy communications. We hire students in traditional and digital media and communications, journalism, design and data visualization, website management, media and opinion research, and non-profit management. Successful candidates will be exposed to a wide range of skills and responsibilities in media relations, research, design, management, and communications skills and responsibilities. This is a unique opportunity to put technical talents to work for a social justice organization.
Activities will focus on maintaining and updating the back-end of ReThink Media’s website (Drupal), building out and maintaining our HubSpot CRM, and acting as liaison our website and CRM vendors. Ideal candidates will have a demonstrated commitment to one or more of the policy issues represented by the groups and collaboratives that ReThink Media works with. At present we are looking to hire candidates in our Berkeley, CA office for a three-month term. Successful candidates may have the opportunity to extend the length and/or breadth of their position. ReThink Media Interns and Fellows are expected to work at least 20 hours per week (although less time may be considered in special circumstances).
Special Requirements/Qualifications: The ideal candidate will be an incurable systems thinker who loves relational databases, creating workflows, and managing tag taxonomies. We are looking for someone who loves databases; you will be a critical part of bringing standardization and efficiency to areas of tracking and measurement that have been ad hoc or experimental.
- Proficiency with Drupal CMS required; experience designing a Drupal website a plus.
- Experience with CRMs such as HubSpot, Salesforce, Neon, or Nation Builder.
- Basic HTML required; CSS, SQL, and/or Python a major plus.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and similar spreadsheet applications.
- Familiarity with WordPress and/or other content management systems a plus.
- Experience with Mail Chimp, Survey Monkey, and/or Trello a plus.
- Experience with graphic design, photo editing, or video editing a plus.
Estimated Salary: Interns (currently in undergraduate programs) are paid $13.75 per hour. Fellows (currently in graduate or masters programs) are paid $15.75 per hour.
