About the Organization: One Step Away is Philadelphia’s street newspaper with a mission to create an accessible income opportunity for people with the greatest barriers to securing employment. In addition, we help people advocate for themselves and have a voice in the community while raising awareness for social justice.
About the Position: The Vendor & Volunteer Coordinator will be responsible for vendor and volunteer management. This position works directly with our vendors and manages the day-to-day operations of the vendor site and street sales. The position focuses on helping individuals in need earn short-term income distributing the newspaper (vendors), while looking at long-term, sustainable goals, ultimately supporting individual’s reintegration into society and growth toward self-sufficiency. In addition to assisting the vendors, the position will work with community groups to develop partnerships and identify volunteer positions within One Step Away. The position will coordinate all volunteer, vendor, and partnerships for One Step Away. This position is part-time position from 12 – 24 hours a week, and requires managing the vendor street sales and the vendor site which is open every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10am-1pm (excluding July 4th, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, New Year’s Day). Flexibility for occasional day, evening, and weekend coverage as needed. This position requires working in an office and throughout Philadelphia visiting vendors at their selling locations and conducting outreach. Frequent travel around Center City and to the surrounding suburbs. Must be able to lift and carry at least 25 pounds, walk on uneven surfaces, and navigate up and down stairs.
Special Requirements/Qualifications: High School diploma or GED.
Minimum of two year previous experience working with individuals experiencing homelessness or facing other life challenges.
Candidates must have an interest in human services, be energetic, self-motivated, and flexible.
Knowledge of Philadelphia homelessness landscape, nonprofits, and services preferred.
Previous experience in small, startup nonprofits a plus.
Valid state driver’s license required, own transportation is a plus.
Estimated Salary: $13.20 per hour
