About the Position: The Texas Civil Rights Project (“TCRP”) seeks a Press Coordinator dedicated to advancing the movement for social justice in Texas by focusing on our media communications goals to change narratives and place storytelling at the center of social change. This individual will be responsible for coordinating daily communications tasks in our Community Engagement Department, acting as a liaison between TCRP and the media, and assist in driving forward project and campaign goals in our three legal programmatic areas (Voting Rights, Criminal Justice Reform, and Racial & Economic Justice). As part of the Community Engagement Department, the Press Coordinator can be based in either TCRP’s Alamo, Austin, Dallas, Houston, or San Antonio office and will be managed by the Director of Advocacy & Communications.
Special Requirements/Qualifications:
- Excellent writing, editing, and verbal communication, including the ability to tell a compelling story about TCRP’s work.
- Strong sense of media operations, deadlines, and style.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational ability to prioritize and juggle multiple competing demands. Willingness and ability to respond to fast-moving projects in an environment where the stakes are high.
- The “ganas” factor: ability to take initiative and solve problems. Ability to coach people and train staff and clients to drive forward a compelling and values-based message.
- Recognize the ways that race, ethnicity, and other identities intersect and play out in our work, especially with the communities we serve.
- Existing contacts in local/state/national media are a bonus but not required.
- Ability to read, write, and speak in Spanish is preferred but not required.
Estimated Salary: This position begins at $42,500 on the tiered pay-scale based on years of experience. TCRP also offers excellent benefits, professional development opportunities and a deep commitment to a meaningful work-life balance. Benefits include: employer-paid health insurance, four weeks paid vacation, six weeks paid family leave (with avenues to extend leave to 12 weeks in total), a $500 professional development budget annually, and extensive holidays, including a winter break between December 25th and New Year’s Day.
