The Nature Conservancy’s GLOBE (Growing Leaders on Behalf of the Environment) summer internship program hires undergraduate students, graduate students, or recent college graduates (2017, 2018, and 2019) to fill paid internship positions during a 10-week summer internship. These positions are available throughout the United States and provide a unique opportunity to bridge the gap between academics and real-world conservation work. The program recruits individuals from a variety of backgrounds and experiences who are interested in contributing to our conservation goals in various fields. We offer a structured orientation, professional training, network opportunities, mentoring program, and real work experience.

About the Position: The Georgia Chapter is a leader in developing and implementing strategies to conserve aquatic habitats and systems, including addressing the impacts of dams and road crossings on hydrologic connectivity and influencing dam operations to encourage more natural flow patterns. The Freshwater Conservation Agency Relations Associate GLOBE Intern will support the Nature Conservancy’s conservation goals by assessing existing information about the regulatory setting related to aquatic connectivity in Georgia, identifying key points of contact between the TNC and outside agencies, organizations, and policymakers. The resulting product of the intern’s work will be a report outlining the key steps TNC can take in Georgia by engaging with agencies, policymakers, and other organizations, to streamline the regulatory setting to accelerate aquatic connectivity work throughout the state. The intern will report to the Georgia Director of Freshwater Science & Strategy. Intern will travel to various locations within Georgia and to the Maine Chapter of TNC or other chapters to meet with relevant staff to learn about similar approaches to the same issues. This is a full-time, temporary internship position with a 10-week term of June 3 – August 9, 2019.
