About the Organization: Open Doors (formerly HARTS) is a nonprofit organization that has been serving those experiencing homelessness in the Shenandoah Valley since 2007. Our emergency shelter is open November-April for 22 weeks out of the year. The shelter is hosted by faith communities located throughout Harrisonburg and Rockingham County. Our partnership with local community members and their donations of volunteer hours, funding and more are essential to our success. The Emergency Shelter is open to all men and women over the age of 18 and has a capacity for 40 guests. Last year, Open Doors served 206 different individuals during the shelter season.
About the Position: This is a new position created to help Open Doors strengthen its relationships with community members. We are seeking to expand the ways in which the organization is able to help those experiencing homelessness in our area. The Community Engagement Coordinator will work closely with the Executive Director and will be committed to growth, development and advocacy for those experiencing homelessness. This is a permanent, part time position that will average 15-20 hours per week. Scheduling is flexible, some nights and weekend hours will be required.
- Excellent computer skills; Experience with Quickbooks and donor softwares (such as Little Green Light) preferred.
- Strong oral and written skills: must be able to communicate effectively and appropriately via phone, in-person, email, letters, etc.
- Development/Fund Raising Experience: a minimum of 2 years of experience in development and/or fundraising is required, (or?) Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to build relationships and make connections with local business, community members and faith communities.
Estimated Salary: $15 – $18/hour
