About the Position: We are seeking a student or recent graduate to join our dynamic team in the role of Intern. This internship opportunity will work focus on the Africa Integrity Indicators (AII) research, working closely with the the AII Team Lead, and an international network of contributors to produce, analyze, and disseminate high quality research on transparency, accountability, governance and human development issues. AII entered its seventh round of research in July 2018; the intern will play a key role in managing and improving the research, including by sourcing suitable research candidates across a number of African countries, assisting in quality control processes and by coordinating workload and deadlines of functional reviewers for the overall research portfolio. The person filling this position will have the opportunity to contribute a key portion of the Africa Integrity Indicators work.
This position would start in September, 2018 and run through December, 2018. This opportunity would go 20 – 25 hours per week depending on the availability and needs of the project, with the majority of these hours working from the OpenGov Hub in Washington, DC (1110 Vermont Ave., NW, Suite 500). There is flexibility on how those hours are allocated through the week. The intern will learn the ropes of how to organize and implement a highly complicated but very well organized research project and is expected to quickly learn to support the team to manage the portfolio of 54 countries, to report on progress and to flag and address challenges as they arise. multiple times a week.
Special Requirements/Qualifications: There is no cookie cutter ideal candidate for any position at Global Integrity. We are instead more interested in an individual’s drive, professionalism, and entrepreneurial energy. For this particular position, the following factors will strengthen an applicant’s candidacy:
- Excellent written and spoken English required, French preferred.
- Graduate degree in a relevant area of study including, but not limited to, journalism, public policy, international relations, comparative politics, or development studies.
- Some experience working on research and ensuring consistent application of evidence-based research methodologies.
- Knowledge and experience working in Africa is strongly preferred.
- Resourcefulness performing online research and ability to provide guidance to others.
- Excellent writing and editing skills, preferably with experience in both short and long form; Exceptional attention to detail, ability to perform on tight deadlines, and proven ability to communicate clear and concise instructions.
Estimated Salary: $15/hour, 20-25 hours/week
