About the Position: Girlstart is seeking multiple STEM CREW program leaders to lead our fun, hands-on, STEM-focused After School programs in the California Bay area. Girlstart After School programs meet once a week on Thursdays and/or Fridays for an hour (programs vary from 1-1.5 hours) immediately after the school day. This is a great opportunity to work directly with elementary school girls leading hands-on science, engineering, technology, and math activities. Improve your classroom management skills (including problem solving, critical thinking, & decision-making), teaching style (communication & presentation skills), leadership abilities, be part of a diverse team, and gain curriculum-writing experience. Join Girlstart’s efforts to educate and empower girls! STEM CREW programs leaders serve as positive and fun role models for the girls!
Leading an After School Program is approximately a 3-hour commitment including prepping, practicing, driving to club, leading and wrap. In addition to the 3 hours, STEM CREW are encouraged to have 1-2 office hours to prep, pack, pick up their after school materials, and ask questions about the activity and/or classroom management.
Responsibilities:
- Lead after-school curriculum focused on 4th – 5th grade science standards (curriculum provided by Girlstart)
- Prepare materials needed prior to each week (Girlstart provides materials)
- Learn and implement the Girlstart method within all program activities
- Maintain program attendance and evaluation information
- Facilitate classroom management techniques
- Act as a positive role model for girls
- Implement and run engaging icebreakers
- Provide feedback to Program Coordinator(s)
- HAVE FUN!!!
Special Requirements/Qualifications:
- Pre-service/education majors preferred (STEM background not required)
- Positive, outgoing, and flexible personality
- Self motivated and dedicated individual
- Experience working with girls important
- Goal-oriented and good time manager
- Classroom management skills helpful
- Ability to succeed in an informal classroom atmosphere
- Extremely organized
- Excellent communication skills
- Reliable transportation (or valid driver’s license for at least 1 year)
- Female
Estimated Salary: $10 – $15 per hour, 5-8 hours/week
