About the Organization: Through These Doors (TTD) was founded in 1977 and is the domestic violence resource center that serves victims and survivors in Cumberland County, Maine. In collaboration with local partners and all affected by abuse, TTD creates innovative responses and mobilizes our community to promote safety and challenge systems of oppression and violence.

TTD’s YAAPP program addresses the root causes of intersectional oppressions and deconstructs violent frameworks to bridge the personal and the political and empower individuals to create social change. Our work encourages relationships based on equality and empathy and strives to create a community of active bystanders.

About the Position: The YAAPP (Young Adult Abuse Prevention Program) Educator is responsible for providing education and awareness activities on domestic violence, dating violence, human trafficking, and stalking to young adults in Cumberland County as part of TTD’s prevention program. This position is based at TTD’s administrative office in Cape Elizabeth, ME and includes regular work in the schools and greater community. Travel throughout Southern Maine is required.

Special Requirements/Qualifications:

• Associate’s Degree OR three year’s relevant professional experience
• Experience with public speaking and group facilitation; Comfortable participating in theater for educational purposes and can believably portray a young adult in a skit
• Comfortable and enthusiastic working with youth and able to work with a wide range of people; Effective written and oral communication skills
• Knowledge of and sensitivity to issues of domestic and sexual violence, dating violence, human trafficking, and stalking

Requires background checks; Valid Maine driver’s license and automobile insurance; Successful completion of TTD hotline training, and participation in on-going education and training (post-hire)

Estimated Salary: $15.50 an hour + benefits (full health and dental coverage, earned time off, sick time, life insurance and pension)
