About the Position: Are you interested in social and environmental issues related to cities? Help us launch a new urban conservation program in Milwaukee! The Nature Conservancy is seeking a recent graduate or emerging professional for a one-year paid fellowship starting in September 2018. You’ll help plan urban conservation strategies, build relationships, and connect with cities program staff across the organization. This position is based in Milwaukee with some travel to our Madison and Mukwonago offices.
Work alongside Conservancy staff on projects such as:
• Planning for a Milwaukee conservation program that could include green infrastructure, floodplain protection, urban forestry, or youth engagement
• Building relationships with public and private organizations and community leaders
• Synthesizing information and presenting a plan to Wisconsin staff and leadership
• Engaging with the North America Cities Network at The Nature Conservancy, visiting other city programs, and sharing knowledge with Wisconsin staff
• Helping implement pilot projects in Milwaukee
Special Requirements/Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have the following background and skills:
• College or graduate degree in urban or environmental planning, sociology, public health, ecology, or similar field and related work or volunteer experience
• Previous experience with communities, social issues, and natural resources of Milwaukee
• Experience building partnerships with diverse groups and working with community-based organizations or local governments
• Knowledge of current trends in urban resilience or sustainability projects
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Cross-cultural experience is preferred
• Degree completed within the last 18 months is preferred
Estimated Salary: $37,800 annually, starting
