Details and Requirements: The SeaDoc Society (www.seadocsociety.org) is a major program of the Karen C. Drayer Wildlife Health Center of the School of Veterinary Medicine. SeaDoc’s mission is to ensure the health of marine wildlife and their ecosystems through science and education. It is **geographically located on Orcas Island, Washington**. The Education Coordinator is responsible for developing curriculum aligned with Washington State core science learning standards to support a recently launched book, Explore the Salish Sea: A Nature Guide for Kids, written to educate and inspire 5th and 6th graders about our extraordinary Salish Sea ecosystem. Equally important, the Educational Coordinator will be responsible for creating programmatic content for http://www.JuniorSeaDoctors.org, a free, virtual club for students to join then learn more about actions they can take to help protect the Salish Sea.
Qualifications: Experience in curriculum development with a desired focus on elementary education; Knowledge of how young people engage with educational content online, and skill to weave curriculum into a virtual club that inspires engagement beyond the classroom; Classroom teaching experience; Skills to develop collaborative partnerships among diverse educational groups and in multicultural environments; Strong background in education services and knowledge of both federal and state education systems and correlating rules and policies ~ Preferred Qualifications: Artistically creative in seeking new ways to approach STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) powered classrooms; Ability to leverage social media for networking and partnering with the educational community; Enthusiasm for environmental sustainability that encourages and motivates others to participate; An interest in marine ecosystems and place-based conservation; Familiarity with the Pacific Northwest, Salish Sea, and the corresponding educational community. $15.47 – $31.75/hr
