Details and Requirements: The Refugee Youth Summer Academy (RYSA) is a six-week program focusing on preparing newly arrived refugee youth to succeed at their grade level in the New York City public school system. Up to 130 students from ages 5 – 21 from over 20 countries will participate in academic, creative arts, physical education, and life skills classes. The Operations Associate will work to ensure the smooth daily operation of the Summer Academy, and provide administrative and logistical support related to special events, arrival and dismissal, attendance, student transportation, and meals.
Qualifications: Undergraduate coursework or degree, preferably in Social Work, Sociology, Psychology, Education or Business Operations; Experience working with youth and/or refugee/immigrant populations; Cross-cultural or overseas experience; Second language proficiency language proficiency in relevant language desirable (including French, Spanish, Dari, Farsi, Pashto, Arabic, Mandingo, Bambara, Wolof, Fulani, Tibetan, Russian, Urdu, Bengali, Haitian Creole, Burmese and Nepali)
Position Term: June 18 – August 17, 2018. Hours: 18 hours/week prior to the program, Full time (37.5 hours) July 2 – August 17.
