About the Organization: The museum is dedicated to expanding the public understanding of Adirondack history and the relationship between people and the Adirondack wilderness, fostering informed choices for the future. About the Position: The Adirondack Experience (ADKX) in Blue Mountain Lake, New York invites applicants for its inaugural 10-week summer diversity fellowship program beginning June 2, 2019. This program is specially designed for college students from communities that have been historically underrepresented in arts organizations because of educational and economic disadvantage and ethnic background. As the core component of this program, the museum will host six fellows who are interested in pursuing careers in the museum field. ADKX offers a unique opportunity for students to learn in an incomparable setting and to develop a better understanding of the range of professional museum careers that are available to students from all academic disciplines. During their residency, fellows will interact with managers in six ADKX departments: curatorial, public programming, K-12, exhibitions, development, and marketing. Fellows will be embedded in a department of their interest to acquire in-depth knowledge and work with departmental staff on a project with a specific outcome that will be materialized by the end of the 10-week fellowship. Every effort will be made to place each fellow in a department of his or her choice and to identify a special project of particular interest to the fellow.
Special Requirements/Qualifications: Currently enrolled in either a two or four-year undergraduate college program. Students must be in their second year of study, at a minimum. Majors in all fields are encouraged to apply.
Estimated Salary: Stipend of $6,000, in addition to free housing. Transportation expenses to and from the ADKX will be reimbursed up to $500 per fellow.
