About the Organization: The Democracy Collaborative works to carry out a vision of a new economic system where shared ownership and control creates more equitable and inclusive outcomes, fosters ecological sustainability, and promotes flourishing democratic and community life.

About the Position: The internships will last 16 weeks, with some flexibility of start and end dates to accommodate semester schedules. The internships can be extended for an additional 16 weeks by mutual agreement. The positions will receive a $15 hourly stipend and will be considered an “independent contractor” position. The intern will have the opportunity to work directly with Democracy Collaborative staff and participate in staff seminars, talks, and other events. Community Wealth

The Democracy Collaborative is hiring for a part-time, paid intern position focused on providing research support and maintaining Community-Wealth.org. The intern will produce research memos, fact check and edit documents, assist with uploading content to the website, assist with editing web materials, and provide research assistance for on-going projects.

Higher Education

The Democracy Collaborative is hiring for a part-time, paid intern position focused on our work with higher education institutions to advance anchor mission strategies. The internship will focus in particular on database development and assessment related to tracking the impact universities can have on the social and economic wellbeing of communities.

Special Requirements/Qualifications:

Community Wealth
  • An interest in the field of community-based economic development (actual experience not required)
  • An interest in political economic system change.
  • Experience or interest in website maintenance and basic web design
  • Experience or interest in editing, proofreading, and research
  • Demonstrated excellence in writing and communication (specifically, having the ability to convey relevant information concisely and clearly)
  • A strong commitment to social and economic justice.
  • A willingness to work independently with clear deadlines.
  • An ability to commit to 15-20 hours/week working out of our Washington, DC office.
Higher Education
  • Interest in community economic development and anchor institution practices
  • Interest in economic democracy,  social justice, and community wealth building
  • Interest in evaluation and data assessment
  • Experience in quantitative and/or qualitative data assessment
  • Any interest in/experience with website or software development that could help with the development of our data platform a significant plus!
  •  An ability to commit to 15-20 hours/week working out of our Washington, DC office.

Estimated Salary: $15/hr
