Details and Requirements: Girls Who Code is seeking enthusiastic Teaching Assistants for our new Campus program, which offers beginner and advanced courses for middle and high school girls in a condensed 2-week timeline. In our Campus programs, girls connect coding to their interests, build bravery and confidence, learn more about careers and women in tech, and join a supportive sisterhood of girls who code all across the US. Summer programs are in New York City, Los Angeles, CA, Washington DC Metro Area, Denver & Boulder, CO, Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN and Chicago, IL.
In Summer 2018 Campus is offering four courses:
1) iPhone App Development (ages 13-18) with instruction in Swift & XCode
2) Wearable Tech & Fashion Design (ages 13-18) with instruction in LilyPad Arduino & C
3) Website Design & Development (ages 13-18) with instruction in Javascript, HTML, CSS
4) Introduction to Computer Science (ages 10-14) with instruction in Scratch & Makey Makey

Our Campus program Teaching Assistants will encourage, nurture and mentor girls, and provide them with the essential support needed to build their interest in coding and computational thinking. QUALIFICATIONS: Declared or Intended BA or BS in computer science, or in Education or related field by start of program; Fluency in at least one programming language, Scratch, JavaScript, Arduino C, and/or Swift preferred; Patience and the willingness to adapt to various learning styles and respect for individual differences of students in the classroom. PREFERRED: Previous teaching or mentoring experience, especially in Computer Science; Experience teaching or mentoring students in a lab or makerspace setting; Experience teaching in an academically diverse and culturally responsive classroom community. Must be able to commit to one full-day of training and preparation on the Friday prior to the program’s start date, in addition to online pre-work. Must be able to commit to a full two week summer program schedule between mid June to mid August (exact dates are determined by location). Note: Priority will be given to Teaching Assistants that can teach more than 1 program. Girls Who Code Alumni, Computer Science, Engineering, and STEM Education university students with a passion for inspiring more girls to pursue STEM careers are strongly encouraged to apply.
