About the Organization: The Massachusetts Bail Fund pays up to $500 bail so that low-income people can stay free while they work towards resolving their case, allowing individuals, families, and communities to stay productive, together, and stable. The Massachusetts Bail Fund is committed to the harm reduction of freeing individuals serving pre-trial sentences, and to abolishing pre-trial detention and supervision in the long-term.

About the Position: For years we have proudly operated as an all-volunteer bail fund, and while this has been amazing and rewarding, we have grown so large that we need to hire a part-time Bail Administrator. The Bail Administrator would be responsible for reviewing all incoming referrals and coordinating volunteers to release eligible individuals from detention. This person would work under the supervision of the Director of Operations to determine whether a referral qualifies for our assistance. Location: 2161 Massachusetts Avenue, Cambridge, MA 02140. Office is MBTA accessible, and there is limited parking. Access to a car is helpful, but not required. ​​ 20 – 30 hours per week. Flexible hours are available with requirement to provide evening email coverage for two weeks per month, subject to change. Please note that this is a part-time position without benefits.

Special Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Strong attention to detail and organization.
  • Ability to sit and use a computer for long periods of time.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, particularly via phone and email.
  • Fluency in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Drive Applications, and data entry.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and excel with periodic oversight.
  • Enthusiastic, positive attitude and ability to maintain harmonious relationships with diverse stakeholders. ​
  • **Preferred but not required**:
  • Shared commitment to the abolition of cash bail and pre-trial detention.
  • Previous relevant experience in systems administration and support. Prior experience navigating the Massachusetts Criminal Court system, including being previously incarcerated and/or prosecuted.
  • Applicants with personal exposure to the criminal court system, or who come from communities of color and/or communities that have been impacted by over-policing, are strongly encouraged to apply.

Estimated Salary: Starting at $18/hour, but commensurate with experience.
