About the Organization: The Interfaith Movement Promoting Action by Congregations Together (IMPACT) Organization, is a constituent-led, grassroots initiative that brings together Charlottesville’s diverse faith community to address the root causes of serious community problems. IMPACT is not a direct service organization, meaning we do not provide services such as food or shelter to those in need. Rather, we are a direct action organization, committed to empowering local leaders to identify problems and develop solutions to address systemic problems at their source. IMPACT has won the expansion of child psychiatric care and indigent dental care, creation of a job training program for young adults, improved access to mental health care for ex-offenders, allocation of millions of dollars for affordable housing, and expanded bus service.
The Direct Action and Research Training Center, Inc. (DART) is a national network of 21 faith-based community organizations that unite congregations across racial, religious, and socioeconomic lines to pursue justice. DART organizations seek long-term, sustainable improvements at a systemic level. DART organizations engage in direct action assemblies in which thousands of people from a cross-section of faith traditions publicly hold decision-makers accountable on solutions to serious local community problems.
