Part Time

Development Manager (1-2 days/wk) at Biodiversity Initiative

Fields: environment, fundraising, Central Africa, United Kingdom, Michigan

Location: Remote,

About the Organization: Our charity/NGO is dedicated primarily to rainforest conservation in Central Africa (Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea) and we focus on conservation ecology and capacity building for early career biologists.

About the Position: We are seeking an early-career fundraiser (entry level or <5 years experience) who will work part time (1-2 days a week or about 50 days a year) over the extent of a one-year contract. The position will largely entail working with philanthropic trusts and foundations to fund our flagship projects. The candidate can be based anywhere, but regular (e.g. monthly) face-to-face meetings with the heads of BI in Glasgow (or Houghton, Michigan) would be ideal (but are not required thanks to video chat). A desk can be provided in Glasgow (or possibly in Michigan) as needed. The successful candidate will receive training and guidance from an experienced fundraiser, with increasing levels of independence with experience of the candidate and as things progress. Candidates will be expected to primarily explore UK-based sources of funding, but there may be opportunities in the US as well. The position will begin in mid February, 2019 when the BI team returns from a research trip to Central Africa.

Special Requirements/Qualifications: In addition to strong writing skills and a fundraising background, the ideal candidate will have the desire to work with our organization over the long term and be passionate about wildlife and rainforest conservation. Ideal candidates will have excellent written and communication skills in English, particularly with respect to grant writing and science communication.

Estimated Salary: We can offer between £3-7K (~$4-9K) for the first year depending on the level of experience of the applicant and the time commitment that is negotiated. Part time, 1-2 days a week or about 50 days a year.

Deadline: November 26, 2018
